Here are photos of all the horses living on our farm currently, plus a little info about them.
Ace - 2000 Spotted Saddle Horse gelding
Ace is owned by Steve, but used on our trail string. He started out not very sure footed, but has since found his trail feet and started carrying guests. He is thoroughly loved by Tara, one of our trail guides. |
Ali - 1987 dark bay registered Paso Fino gelding
Ali is Margaret's baby. He is a great guest horse on the trails and has super smooth gaits. He was a stallion when he was much younger, for a short time, and sired two colts, one of which is still standing at stud. |
Buddy - 1998 bay with blanket 16.2h ApHC gelding
Registered Name: Haley's First Copy
Buddy is owned by Vivian, but leased by Ashley. He was originally known as Bubbie, but due to a Bubba already on the farm we changed it slightly to avoid confusion. Buddy is a great intermediate and advanced lesson horse. Extremely well trained and a great jumper. Plus, he has loads of personality! He's recently started showing at the local jumper shows and is doing quite well! Ashley is looking forward to showing him next year! |
Codigo - 1996 chestnut Peruvian Paso gelding
Codigo is an adoption from the Crossed Sabers farm. He came to us severely foundered but with the help of one of our farriers, Mike, he is now sound and a kid-safe guest horse on the trails. |
Cody - ~ 1988 unknown breed gelding
Cody just came to our farm, with his buddy Smokey, from friends of Margaret. He has lots of experience with 4-H, so we are looking forward to adding him to our trail string. |
Copper - 1996 chestnut APHA gelding
Copper started his career shared between the lesson barn and the trail barn. After noticing some stiffness we had the vet look at him and he was diagnosed with hock problems and got moved permenantly to the trail barn. He loves the trails and is often chosen for parades and off-the-farm trail rides because of his brave attitude. |
Dancer - 2003 grey Appendix mare
Show Name: Dancin' In the Rain
Dancer is Abby's horse, but she is becoming a lesson horse favorite quickly. She's got a great mind for her age and is a lot of fun to jump! |
Doc - 1992 chestnut QH gelding
Doc is a great trail horse - as long as he's not the last horse of the string (he thinks there are monsters behind him if there's not a horse there). We tried to teach him some things down at the lesson barn, but soon determined that Doc's forte was walking on the trails. |
Dusty - 1988 chestnut 14.1h AQHA mare
Registered Name: Skippin In Saw Dust
Dusty has the smoothest trot, for a non-gaited horse. She's very sweet and is often found in beginner lessons or as a bareback mount for the older riders. While her walk and trot are perfect, her canter and jump do leave a little to be desired... |
Flicka - 1992 bay with blanket 15.1h App/? mare
Show Name: Primadonna
Join the debate in what Flicka is crossed with. We're pretty sure it's Arabian, but who knows?!? She came to us as a trail horse, but due to her "inability to play well with others" (aka doesn't like horses right behind her) she has moved down to the lesson barn. We had no idea what to expect out of her, but she sure seems to like jumping! She has been very competitive at the local jumper shows! |
Frannie - 1995 chestnut 13.3h registered Paso Fino mare
Frannie, like her half-sister Isabella, is a very smooth gaited trail horse. She sometimes has her tempermental, stubborn moments, but generally is a great mount. We love her very unique blaze - it has freckles! |
Gandalf - 1988 grey 16.3h DWB/Selle Francais gelding
Gandalf has a rocking horse canter with some really nice lead changes. While you definitely have to stay on your toes (actually deep in your heels) while jumping him due to his occasional "over-rounding" aka cracking his back, he's a talented boy. Before coming to Keezlenutten he showed on the A circuit in the working hunter division. |
Holiday - 2002 bay 16.1h TB/Clydesdale mare
Show Name: Fighting Gravity
Holiday belongs to Joel and Danielle. She's a powerful jumper who seems to definitely enjoy it! Super smooth gaits and a great mind - what more could you ask for? |
Hopie - 2001 chestnut 16.1h AQHA gelding
Registered Name: Hopie Arwen
Hopie is a big baby that would love to be your pet! He was born on the farm and while he started out at the lesson barn, looks like he is going to make a full-fledged trail horse. His gaits are great but his size is amazing! Neither his mom or dad were anywhere close to his height! |
Isabella - 1995 chestnut 13.3h registered Paso Fino mare
Isabella is a very smooth gaited trail horse. She's the second choice for Margaret for a trail horse, but she has to fight Teresa for her :) Tends to like being at the back of the trail cause she has "issues" with horses too close behind her. |
Ivory - 1987 16h leopard Appaloosa gelding
Show Name: Man of la Mancha
Ivory is owned by Vicki but used in our lesson program. He moved here all the way from Utah! He is proving to be a great addition to the lesson program with his very willing attitude and super sweet face! |
Joe - 1985 palomino 15.3h ASB gelding
Registered Name: New Attitude
Joe was a stallion until he was 9, and while his ground manners are perfect, he does fancy himself a bit of a ladies man. He is owned by Joel and was shown by him in Natural Mane and Tail classes for many years. Joe has a nice relaxing retirement life these days, spending his days grazing and bossing around Annie. |
K.C. - 1978 chestnut with blanket ApHC gelding
Yes, you did read that year right! While K.C. is not in his prime, he's still a great boy! K.C. is a sure footed, solid trail horse. He definitely had some good Western training earlier in his life, but has proven to be a great asset to the trail program in his later years. |
Kodi - 2002 Appaloosa (can't you tell?!??!) gelding
Kodiak Cassanova is owned by Vicki (not the same one who owns Ivory). He's a great boy with a super comfy canter. We're looking forward to him being a part of the lesson program! |
Lexus - 2002 Hanovarian/TB mare
Lexus is Amanda's horse. She's quite a handful, but Amanda has already shown her in the Novice and Low divisions at some local jumper shows. Only a few people are able to ride her, other than Amanda, but she's a very talented horse. |
Moses - 1984 black AQHA gelding
Registered Name: Boston Moses
Moses came to us as "Spook" and started out in the lesson barn. He was a great lesson horse for a couple of years, but then was retired to the trail barn. He's proved to be an excellent trail horse, but due to people's fears of the name "Spook" (we promise, he's a really good horse), we changed his barn name to Moses. |
Mulligan - 1997 bay Dutch WB/TB gelding
Show Name: Sir Buster Brown
Mulligan belongs to Jenner. He is staying with us while she gets to know him. She's looking forward to showing him this year at the jumper shows! So far, he seems like a great horse who LOVES to jump :) |
Patrick - 1997 bay QH gelding
Patrick is one of our trail horses, and seems to really like his job. Doesn't he have the sweetest face?!? |
Pixie - 1993 Arab cross chestnut pony mare
Pixie is one of our trail horses. She's a great size for a small adult or child and seems to like the easy pace of trails. |
Polly - 2001 black QHx 14.1h mare
She's a great little pony that is already working well with my intermediate and advanced students. She likes to jump and she's easy to get to move on. And no comments about her ears, I think they're nicely proportioned to her head size! |
Ranger - 1989 bay TWH cross gelding
Ranger is owned by Carlyle, but used on our trail string. While he doesn't always get along with others in the paddock, he is an excellent trail mount. Tall enough to carry our bigger riders, but reliable enough to put just about anybody on. |
Razzle - 1985 chestnut 15.3h AQHA gelding
Registered Name: Ole Mans Forecast
Razzle is the lesson horse that has been here the longest. He's a perfect horse for people to learn to canter on, as he's great on a longe line. His past involved lots of showing in the Western Pleasure arena, and every once in awhile he'll still demonstrate a lope. |
Red - 1997 chestnut Mountain Pleasure horse gelding
Red started out on our trail string at 3 years old! He's been going strong ever since and actually gets his feelings hurt when you don't use him. He doesn't actually like to gait that much, but he sure likes to trail ride! |
Roo - 2003 dark bay 14.2h QH mare
Show Name: Russian Roulette
Roo has a canter that is as easy to sit as a walk and her jump is great for her age. Excellent ground manners and easily becoming a barn favorite. She has no idea how small she is and tends to be a bit bossy with other horses - no matter how much bigger they are. |
Ruby - 2003 chestnut 15.1h DWB/QH mare
Ruby is going to be a guide horse this summer for our trail guides. She's a great size and has very comfortable gaits! |
Smokey - ~1988 unknown breed gelding
Smokey just came to our farm, with his buddy Cody, from friends of Margaret. He has lots of experience with 4-H, so we are looking forward to adding him to our trail string.
Street Car - 1996 grey 15.2h SB/TB gelding
Street is owned by Danielle, but occassionally used in the lesson program. He is a fun horse that definitely loves to go. Currently competing in the Schooling division with Danielle at local jumper shows. While his ground manners leave a lot to be desired, he makes up for it with the most honesty to the fences around. |
Taffy - 1979 take a guess at the breed mare
Taffy could be any number of different breeds. She has a few small paint spots, a dun stripe and a black mane and a blond tail, plus she gaits! While we don't know what breed she is, we do know we love her! Taffy is our unofficial farm mascot when it comes to visits off the farm. She has traveled with us to schools, festivals, camps, etc. |
Timmy - 1996 chestnut 15.2h QH/TWH/App gelding
Timmy is full of personality. He started out as a trail horse, but soon discovered that he could be cranky enough to get him out of work. He's a much loved addition to the lesson barn with his smooth gaits and great jumping ability. He's showing very well in the local jumper shows in both Novice and Lows and is starting to get called a "packer"! |
Tucker - 1998 bay 14h pony gelding
Tucker is Lisa's pony. He's VERY cute! Quite possibly the laziest horse that we've ever ridden, but worth the work cause once you get him moving he's very smooth in all his gaits. Plus, he can jump higher than his belly :) |
Zippy - 1982 chestnut 14.3h AQHA gelding
Registered Name: Peppys Comet
Zippy is a great lesson horse. While he's a little on the lazy side, he has a great canter take-off and is usually the second horse that people canter on. He can still go over jumps, but we usually keep them under 2' because of his age. In his life prior to Keezlenutten he was a barrel horse! |
